History
The Board of Supervisors is developing a thoughtful, well-rounded, short-term rental ordinance that properly balances the interests of property owners with the desire to avoid rogue rentals. This ordinance discussion has materialized because of the Slice of Life Decision on April 26, 2019, which, according to the way the township's ordinance is written, makes short-term rentals (STRs) illegal in Tobyhanna Township with the exception of hotels and bed and breakfasts.
Draft Ordinance
Monroe County developed a model ordinance on STRs, which many townships have altered slightly and adopted. Tobyhanna Township used Jackson Township's ordinance as their starting point, and has edited portions of it to reflect the opinions expressed at short-term rental work sessions. The draft ordinance provided in the right pane is a living document, and is provided to the public to augment discourse during work sessions. This ordinance has not been enacted, and will change after every meeting.
